With over 30 years of experience as an Attorney-at-Law practicing in Trinidad and Tobago, Roger Kawalsingh provides advice and counsel with a particular focus on Civil Procedure and Practice to include negligence, contract, insurance, construction, land, probate, medical negligence, judicial review, banking, oil & gas, maritime and intellectual property. Having practiced in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Privy Council, Petty Civil Courts and Industrial Court, Roger Kawalsingh has contributed to several seminal decisions to include:

• C.V. 2016-01522 Namalco v EMBD (Construction) before Justice Rahim which case determined several issues surrounding construction law, including but not limited to, the validity of interim payment certificates (IPCs), the defence of abatement;
• C.V. 2012-05214 Excellent Choices Limited v Gulf Insurance Limited (Maritime) before Justice Seepersad which case concerned issues of maritime law, namely, whether the vessel was sea-worthy at the time that it sank to recover sums pursuant to the marine policy of insurance;
• C.V. 2020-0285 Devant Maharaj v Ministry of Health (Judicial Review) before Justice Rahim which was a cause in judicial review which concerned the decision by the Ministry of Health to withhold disclosure of documents on the basis that they were privileged;
• C.V. 2019-04096 Ramroop Mahabirsingh v Rigel & Ryan Bissoondial (Adverse Possession) before Justice Rampersad in which success was obtained by the Claimant in dispossessing the title holder;
• Civil Appeal No. S117-2018 Neptune, Mahabir & Roopnarine v Manzano (Probate) before Boodoosingh JA, Mohammed JA & Wilson JA in which it was argued before the Court of Appeal whether an Executrix obtained her power upon the death of the deceased and was entitled to avail herself of the remedy of self-help to remove individuals who were trespassers on the deceased’s lands; and
• C.V. 2017-02497 Koyash Enterprises Limited v MK Wholesalers & Distributors Limited (Intellectual Property) before James J in which arguments were made that the Defendants had infringed upon the Claimant’s trademark.
• CV 2012- 05129 Myron Rudder v Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago before Rahim J in which the court was asked to determine the constitutionality of the Central Bank (Amendment )Act 2011.

Prior to opening his private practice in 2009, Roger Kawalsingh practiced in chambers with Mrs. Kamala Persad Bissessar from September 1993 to December 1993. Thereafter, he became an associate Attorney-at-Law with Dipnarine Rampersad and Company from January 1994- March 1994 and at Hobsons Attorneys-at-Law from April 1994 to July 2008. During that time, he became a partner at Hobsons Attorneys-at-Law in 2000. Following his departure at Hobsons Attorneys-at-Law in 2007, he established his own, well established practice.

Roger Kawalsingh was a former member of the Police Service Commission from 11th June, 2019 for a period of 3 years and a current member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago from 14th October, 2016. In his earlier years, Roger Kawalsingh was a former cricketer having played in 1st class cricket which has led to him now becoming a standing member of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC). He is also an avid fisherman.
